With Winter fast approaching (3 weeks away, apparently!) it might be nigh time one started thinking about next Summer.

This Beach Chalet by StudioMama is just the ticket. Like a proportionally sized campervan layout, and lovely choice of materials, this is the perfect addition to your favorite swimming spot. Now if only it came with a towbar…

Such a lovely genius is Philippe Malouin, with his mitre block design for cutting bread, taking the construction of a sandwich to the next level.

From the designer: “A ritual for uncertain times, Mr. Mitre is a bread mould and a beechwood mitre box. The tin bakes perfectly fitted, rectangular loafs and is accompanied by a box that allows 90 and 45 degree cuts to be accurately achieved. Whether a tool for sharing, building or personal use, the sheer knowledge that your daily bread can be cut with such exacting precision will help people with OCD as well as everyday bread cutters, making bread taste that much better.”

Philippe’s mdf wall pieces are also a coveted art piece. Such beauty from such mundane materials. Thanks for being so amazing Philippe!

Auntie Oti is a collection of everyday items from India with a special emphasis on Khadi: hand woven fabrics made of hand spun yarn. The collection purveys the everyday of India, where humble and practical items are often multi-purposed in their functions.

All items are produced on a local level, many of which are made at home on a lone loom with each piece personified by the individual hand of a skilled artisan. While no two lots are alike, each is beautiful in its unique way.

Fort Standard is our new favourite contemporary design studio, founded by Gregory Buntain and Ian Collings.

Their collaborative work is a manifestation of their shared vision and progressive design approach which pairs timeless materials with modern process. Using traditional methods of production in innovative ways, the duo have developed a unique form language rooted in simplicity, functionality and materiality. Buntain and Collings describe it as a “warm-contemporary” aesthetic.

We especially love their latest Home goods and jewelry range, (in store now!) featuring marble trivets and candle holders, turned oak glass vessels and cast brass jewelry. We think the focus on raw materials, shapes and simplicity compliments our own ‘Made by Douglas and Bec’ range perfectly!

With the most recent addition being Kinfolk Magazine from the USA. Volume 7 is an ode to ice cream and a celebration of the spring season, focusing on those shared loves that bring us together: the enjoyment of food, friends, family, and time spent in community whether around the table or out-of-doors. What’s not to love? I promise you, you won’t be able to get through this magazine without a crazy desire for a bowl of ice-cream. Dawn Nwad’s ‘slab series’ ceramics are glazed in mouth-watering ice-cream pastels, that just scream out for a scoop of ice-cream, coupled with the cutest little spoons you’ve ever seen, your date with the couch and a good read is set!

In June 1931 famed navigator Harold Gatty + aviator Wiley Post took off on the first attempted round world flight, cricketer Charlie Parker (not to be confused with jazz musician “yardbird” Parker) reached 100 wickets and… John Baldessari was born.

Of all the influential artists you have never heard of, John Baldessari is, if not at least the most influential then the tallest and most recognisable. Rising up at 6’7 with a beard of white he openly talks about his fascination with other “like-heighted” people, Clint Eastwood… “how tall is he?” asks John Baldessari… 6’2, he has nothing on statuesque John.

First a painter, John Baldessari progressed into text + photography, he went on to become the “godfather” of conceptual art. He is the guy that “put dots over people faces”…. only he could sum himself up in such a understated manner. Thank you John Baldessari for not making anymore boring art, as promised.

Sit back, watch, look, listen as the all incredible Tom Waits fills you in on the “Brief History of John Baldessari”. This is definitely a short film to watch.
